KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Giant hearts attached to street poles will line a roughly one-mile stretch of Winner Road and Lexington Avenue in Independence, Missouri, throughout the month of February as part of the annual HeART 2 HeART Connection fundraiser.

The hearts connect the Englewood Station Arts District with Independence Square.

Thad McCullough and Tammy Parson of West iNd Connection decorate most of the nearly 200 two-by-two foot hearts with personal Valentine’s Day-themed messages for a $25 donation.

Money from the fundraiser will benefit Englewood Arts Missouri, which is transforming the former three-story Comprehensive Mental Health building on East Winner Road into an artists center and hub.

“One of the main goals is bringing communities together so we can expand our community and not separate our community,” McCullough said.

The deadline to buy a heart is Tuesday, Jan. 26. The fundraiser is available on West iNd Connection’s website.

McCullough encourages people to drive along the “HeART Trail” during the month of February and stop at the Independence Square or the Englewood Station Arts District to support local businesses.
