KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A federal grant awarded to Kansas City-based Heart to Heart International hopes to reduce the number of people who die from opioid overdoses.

The $9.5 million grant will help Heart to Heart partner with the Center for Disease Control and other agencies to respond to requests from states and territories to establish laboratory equipment used in the fight against the epidemic.

Heart to Heart says previous experience working internationally for relief will help the organization implement the goals of the grant.

“We are committed to supporting the CDC and state laboratories in this comprehensive effort to combat the opioid crisis,” said Heart to Heart CEO Jim Mitchum. “Addressing this national epidemic is a formidable but critical challenge for our country.”
