SHAWNEE, Kan. -- Right from the start, let me state that one person’s “ugly” sweater may be another person’s “treasured” holiday attire.

Whichever is the case for you, you can find the right fit at the City Thrift on Shawnee Mission Parkway.

The location has 20,000 square feet of good stuff that helps all of us do good stuff, in turn.

The store, which opened November 30 with people waiting outside in lawn chairs, is owned by City Union Mission. Every donation and every purchase goes to providing shelter and food to tens of thousands of our community’s neediest folks.

(They always take donations, by the way, so load up the car and head on over.)

Monday, December 11, they’re having a sale: 50 percent off all Christmas decorations and trees.

And, back to the “beauty-is-in-the-eye-of-the-beholder” sweaters: if you buy a sweater with a special tag attached, a meal is provided to City Union Mission.

Melissa Rhoades of City Thrift says the response to the store and its mission has been amazing and she hopes it continues even after the holiday season.

So, if you need a wreath or a tree skirt or that sweater with dogs or reindeer or who knows what, make City Thrift a stop on your holiday shopping tour.

“Ugly” never did so much good!
