The Great Plains SPCA is asking for donations to cover medical costs for a dog shot in the face and body.

They named him 'Lucky.'

"He's lucky to be alive," the Great Plains SPCA shared in a Facebook post.

On Tuesday night, Lucky was brought to the Independence campus with gunshot wounds on his face and body.

Lucky was abandoned in a home with another dog for an extended amount of time.

The Facebook post described the conditions the dogs endured: "the floors were covered in feces, they'd eaten through several doors trying to find a way out."

To escape, the dogs broke through a glass window and ran onto a property that had livestock, where they were shot by the owner.

Lucky was rushed to the Blue Pearl Veterinary Partners for urgent treatment of his injuries. He is in a lot of pain and the extent of his injury are unknown, according to the post.

Lucky's partner is recovering at the Independence campus of the SPCA.
