Human remains found in North Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Several agencies are investigating after human remains were discovered in North Kansas City Wednesday afternoon.

According to a press release from the city, the remains were discovered by a hiker in a wooded area south of the North Kansas City Hospital.

NKC officers, crime scene investigation crews and the Clay County medical examiner located additional remains and confirmed they are human.

The remains are said to be in "an advanced state of decomposition," but at this time there is no evidence of criminal activity.

The medical examiner is working to identify the person and determine their cause of death.
