KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas Highway Patrol reopened both Interstate 35 northbound and U.S. 69 Highway northbound at 87th street, after a fatal morning crashed shut it down.
William D. Carter, 37, was driving a 2008 Infinity southbound in the northbound lanes of Interstate 35, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. The second driver, Andrew A. Hixson, 34, was traveling northbound on Interstate 35 in a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta when Carter struck his vehicle head-on.
Hixson died at the scene following the crash. Carter was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.
Carter was driving on the wrong side of the highway when the crash occurred, according to KHP.
