KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a man died in a semi crash and fire on westbound Interstate 70 at Woods Chapel Road Monday morning.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says they received a call about a crash shortly after 4:30 a.m.

The crash occurred as a semi went off the right side of the interstate, struck a guardrail and overturned. The semi then caught on fire.

The driver of the semi, a 62-year-old man from Fort Scott, Kansas, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The stretch of I-70 was closed for several hours due to the incident. The Missouri State Highway Patrol opened one lane of I-70 at around 12 p.m. and fully opened the highway at about 1:15 p.m.
