Samantha Kessler doesn’t remember getting into a head-on collision last Monday afternoon.
The 21-year old had just finished her finals at Graceland University in Independence and was heading to see her boyfriend in Central Missouri. She was on 50 Highway when a car attempting to pass a semi, hit her.
She says, “I guess I got a few good people looking out for me. I really have no explanation as to why I made it through. Looking at the car now, there shouldn’t be room. I shouldn’t have made it.”
Kessler woke up in a hospital in Columbia with several broken bones. She now has a rod in her left leg and her broken hand had to be reset.
But there was one thing the nursing major was planning on – her attendance at graduation. With the help of family and friends, she made it. Unable to walk across the stage, she’s still happy she went.
“I worked so hard to be here. I really wanted to be a part of it.”
