Independence grandmother pleads guilty to murder-for-hire plot to kill parent of grandchildren

A grandmother who was charged in a murder-for-hire scheme and accused of trying to pay someone to kill a parent of her grandchildren has pleaded guilty.

According to the Office of the United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, Teresa Owen, 62, admitted that she met with an undercover officer in Independence, Missouri where Owen asked the undercover officer to kill the parent for $700.

According to police, Owen used her phone to access Facebook photos of the parent, provided written identification, location information and a payment of $200 to the undercover officer on June 11, 2015.

Owen will be sentenced to at least three years in federal prison without parole and up to four years without parole.
