A 37-year-old Independence man died in a single vehicle crash on I-70 Saturday evening.
The Missouri Highway Patrol says Ryan M. Scott, 37, was driving a 2000 Ford Taurus eastbound on I-70 in Lafayette County shortly after 5 p.m. when he traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a tree, caught fire and ended up in a creek.
It's unknown why Scott's vehicle traveled off the roadway.
The crash is the 16th fatality accident of the year.
