Missing Independence man found safe

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- UPDATE 9:10 PM 10/11/2017: Police say Wesley I. Mattonen has been found and is safe.

Independence police have issued an endangered silver advisory for Wesley I. Mattonen, an 88-year-old man with Alzheimer’s.

Mattonen is 5’9’’, 125 pounds, with gray hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a white shirt with beige cargo pants and black shoes.

He was driving a brown 2009 Toyota Tacoma with a matching brown camper shell. It has Missouri tags 3HM-705.

Mattonen left his home in the 12500 block of East 39th Terrace around 9:45 Wednesday morning.

His family thinks he may be trying to go to the Aldi grocery store on 23rd Street or the Genesis Health Club on South Crackerneck Road.

Anyone who sees Mattonen or his truck is asked to call 911, local law enforcement, or the Independence Police Department at 816-836-3600.
