UPDATE, May 7 | The suspect killed was identified as 33-year-old William Shimp.

ORIGINAL STORY, May 5 | An Independence police officer shot and killed a burglary suspect after the suspect shot at the officer.

The shooting happened just after 10 p.m. near East 9th Street and Bales Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri.

Independence police officers were pursuing two burglary suspects and the chase rolled into Kansas City, according to KCPD.

A suspect in the car shot at an officer and the officer returned fire, police said.

The suspect was killed. The officer was not injured.

The second suspect suffered injuries when in a crash near East 9th Street and Bales.
