KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Independence Police Department said they have located a man wanted for several crimes who escaped from the hospital where he was being treated following his arrest, and he is now in custody.
Derick Peknik, 31, was wanted for fleeing or resisting arrest and attempted stealing of a motor vehicle in Jackson County.
According to the police department's Facebook page, officers were attempting to detain Peknik for felony shoplifting on May 23 when he rammed a police vehicle and fled in a stolen car.
He allegedly attempted to carjack three other vehicles before he was taken into custody and broke both of his legs in the process.
Peknik escaped from the hospital and was considered armed and dangerous, according to police.
