Insurance companies announce coverage of potential COVID-19 costs

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — At least two major area medical insurers have announced they will cover costs associated with potential COVID-19 infections.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City and United Healthcare will both cover the cost of the COVID-19 test completely for members.

Blue KC will also waive early medication refill limits so that members can stock up and will waive fees for virtual care for members, allowing them to be monitored at home or contact doctors 24-7.

There is currentlyonly one confirmed case of coronavirus in the Kansas City area, but like many other entities, the insurance companies are preparing for the spread of the virus.
