Involuntary manslaughter charges in deadly KCMO traffic crash

Posted

A man was charged with involuntary manslaughter after a fatal crash that happened on March 6 at 2:44 a.m.

According to the probable cause statement, Ramone D. Akins was traveling at a minimum of 83 mph southbound on Prospect Avenue as another vehicle was in the process of turning north on Prospect from eastbound 56th Street. Akins collided with the other vehicle on the driver's side. The other driver, Dwayne Horn, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

According to the officers investigating the crash, a toxicology report tested negative for Akins, but the speed of his vehicle made it impossible for Horn to have observed, anticipated, or react to the oncoming vehicle.
