Independence police ID woman found dead last month

UPDATE, 5:50 p.m. Feb. 9 | The Independence Police Department said later Tuesday it believed it had made a "preliminary identification" of the woman found dead last month.

Police did not publicly release her name.

ORIGINAL, Feb. 9 | The Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office is seeking more information to identify a woman who was found dead last month in Independence.

The woman was found on Jan. 9 in the 1100 block of South Park Avenue, according to the medical examiner. The office did not offer additional details on her cause of death.

She is believed to be in her late 30s or early 40s with short brown hair and brown eyes. She is 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 143 pounds.

She has two tattoos on her body: a unicorn on her left upper back and the name “Hannah” with butterflies on her right wrist.

Anyone with information on her identity is asked to contact the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office at 816-881-6600. Callers should ask to speak with an on-duty investigator.
