OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Culinary students from Johnson County Community College could be joining the 2020 Junior Olympic Team.

The JCCC student culinary team has five students, several of which are first-semester students, trying out for the 2020 USA Junior Culinary Olympic team.

"Cooking with you know, the best of the best, our goal is to be the best culinary team in the USA at this point," said Torian Jenkins, JCCC Culinary Student.

Team USA represents the best of our country’s culinarians in the most prestigious competition in the world. Teams from more than 30 countries will compete on both senior and junior levels.

"They expect nothing less than almost perfect and that's our goal is to get everything perfect," said Jenkins.

The JCCC team is made up of captain Elijha Luck, Melissa Dodd, Charlie McCale, Torian Jenkins, and Katie Barkley, with student team manager Baylie Hannah. All of them are full-time students and work full time in local operations, as well as spend around 15 to 20 hours a week practicing their craft.

The team will head to New Orleans in July to compete at Nationals. In 2020, the USA Junior Culinary Olympic competitions will take place in Germany.
