The Kansas Department of Transportation and Gateway Interchange Constructors took part in a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday morning for two new I-35 and I-435 interchange flyover ramps.
These new ramps are part of phase two of the Johnson County Gateway Project. The ramp from I-435 westbound to I-35 southbound opened last week. The ramp from I-435 eastbound to I-35 northbound will open Wednesday.
According to the Johnson County Gateway Project website, the area will be rebuilt into a new diverging diamond interchange. The entire interchange and some surrounding streets will be closed through the end of the year.
The website also states the reconstruction will include adding new sidewalks, pedestrian crossings and new lighting.
