For two special ladies, deciding which doughnut they want for breakfast ranks as a tougher decision than the one they made years ago -- to join Big Brothers Big Sisters.

"If I have time to sit around on the couch all weekend, I have time to spend a couple of hours each weekend with a kid who just needs someone to spend some time with," said Kate Sweeten of her decision to join Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Now five years later, Sweeten's decision brings her to the Westport Doughnut Lounge, just her latest stop on her long journey with her Little, 15-year-old Lamonie Simms.

"We always try new foods and anything like that," said Lamonie. "We have good talks. Go get our nails and feet painted. Do a whole bunch of stuff."

Said Sweeten, "She's super adventurous so we try new restaurants, new activities, new events. She's always up to try something new."

Like the time Sweeten took Lamonie to Kansas State, her alma mater.

"Now the conversation's changed a little bit, where it's not if I go to college, it's when I go to college, and when I go to school," said Sweeten.

Said Lamonie, "She inspired me to go to K-State because I didn't know which college I would want to go to, but now I'm a little Wildcat."

It's all leading up to another decision Sweeten has already made, to not miss any of her Little's big days.

"I have every plan to be at her high school and college graduation as long as she's still cool with me hanging around," said Sweeten laughing.
