KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One in eight people in the Kansas City region are food insecure. And the Kansas City Chiefs want to fight that.

The team partnered with Ambassadors of Compassion to donate more than 30,000 pounds of protein to local food pantries and church ministries. Members of the Chiefs Community Caring Team helped volunteers load food into the vehicles of local agencies. Players said this is their way of giving back to the community that cheers them on.

"Any time we can do this to show our appreciation for the fans, for the people that support us, we want to do it," Wide receiver Mecole Hardman said. "It just warms your heart and puts a smile on your face knowing that you can do that for somebody."

Food insecurity is the inability to reliably access nutritious food.

Harvesters identified the organizations that benefit from the event. Tyson donated the food.
