KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City father left in charge of his three small children is accused of abusing his 3-week-old daughter.

Corriel Willis, 25, is charged in Jackson County Court with two counts of abuse of a child resulting in serious emotional or physical injury.

Willis and the baby's mother took the baby Monday morning to a hospital emergency room, according to a court document.

The mother told the doctor she had gone out Sunday night and left their three children with Willis.

Willis told police he and two of his children, ages 1 and 2, fell asleep Sunday night together on Willis' bed in the couple's bedroom, a court document states.

The baby was on a Boppy pillow at the end of the bed.

Willis told police the baby's screaming woke him up, and he found his 2-year-old daughter on top of the baby, according to the court document.

He waited several minutes before sending a text message to his fiance, the mother of the children.

Willis said the baby wasn't breathing right.

A doctor's exam at the hospital revealed the baby had severe head trauma from violent shaking and abdominal trauma from blunt force.

The baby also had injuries to her pancreas, spleen, liver and rib fractures, according to the court document.

The document states the baby had life-threatening injuries.

Willis was booked into the Jackson County Jail. His bond is set at $100,00, cash only.
