KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City, Missour City Council is looking to increase funding to improve resurfacing crumbling roads.

"Pretty broken and not great,” resident Solomon Tapia said.

You probably already know what this story is about.

" Lots of bumps, we are trying not to have flat tires,” driver Lindsey Mrowinski said.

"Look at the roads," driver Deborah Grandberry said. "I am in here getting air, I am buying tires, I am busting tires."

Roads and potholes in Kansas City have turned into jokes and memes on social media.

"I popped two (tires), just from hitting the potholes,” Grandberry said.

But it's not a laughing matter for those on the wrong side of the wrong problem.

Kansas City council members say help is on the way. They’re increasing funding to $17 million starting in May.

"I feel like they are trying really hard," Mrowinski said. "I live in the Northland and I see them trying to patch."

Some say city leaders spend more money on roads in certain neighborhoods.

"In the rich parts of town, the roads are usually fixed and perfect," Tapia said. "I lived on the east side of town this past summer and the sidewalks were broken, and the roads were really messed up."

Council members we spoke with say road projects are decided based on available funds and areas that see a lot of traffic.

With the increased budget, the city hopes to spread the wealth.

"I am in the show me state," Grandberry said. "I will believe it when I see it."

The increased funding is different than the voter approved GO Bonds, which represent larger and longer-term plans.
