KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City, Missouri, Fire Department is working on a structure fire near East 26th Street and Prospect Avenue.
Fire crews responded to the fire at 2548 Prospect Ave. just before 7 p.m. Sunday.
Upon arrival, crews reported heavy fire and smoke from a two-story unoccupied commercial building.
Officials said that after an initial interior attack, KCFD companies got out of the structure and began fighting the fire defensively.
The fire is contained to the structure, according to officials.
No injuries have been reported at this time, KCFD said.
KCFD crews expect to be on scene for "several more hours."
Prospect Avenue is closed in both directions from 26th to 24th streets and from Prospect to Brooklyn avenues.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
