KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City, Missouri, police said Friday that two people have died from injuries sustained in separate crashes over the past week.

The first occurred shortly after 10 p.m. on April 16 near Interstate 435 and Eastwood Trafficway. Brianna N. Prescott-Coffman, 20, of Grain Valley, was stopped in the center lane of southbound traffic for “reasons unknown” when another vehicle struck her car from behind, according to a KCPD report.

She was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. According to police, she died from her injuries late Wednesday.

A male passenger in the car with her also was seriously injured. No one in the other vehicle sustained injuries, and the driver was released pending further investigation, according to police.

The second crash occurred around 1:10 a.m. Friday on Interstate 29 south of Barry Road. A 19-year-old Platte City woman was a passenger in a vehicle that ran off the roadway and overturned.

The woman, later identified as Lexie R. Farris, was ejected from the vehicle and transported to an area hospital in critical condition. Police said she died hours later from her injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, a 19-year-old man, also was transported to the hospital with injuries to his arm.
