KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Bad weather means bad business for Kansas City restaurants.
Since October, the metro has seen snow on 37 days. Not only has it caused problems on the roads, but the snow has also stopped traffic at local restaurants.
Though it's cold outside, Clark Grant is feeling the heat at Hogshead Kansas City on the Country Club Plaza.
"Sixty-five percent of our reservations canceled, and that doesn't even count no-shows that we had," said Grant, Hogshead's executive chef proprietor.
As the snow has fallen across the metro several weekends in a row, sales at local restaurants have fallen with it.
"We're probably doing half of the business we would normally do on a Friday or Saturday night when we have these weather events," Grant said.
The chances of making up those loss are slim to none, Grant said.
Other restaurants around town are feeling the same pinch.
"I'm pretty sure we can pretty much blame it all on the weather, too," said Josh Rogers, owner of Krokstrom Klubb & Market.
The restaurant's sales in December and January were down 40 to 50 percent from last year, Rogers said.
Because of the loss in sales, Krokstrom Klubb & Market could be forced to close its doors, the restaurant said recently on social media.
Businesses took hits during Restaurant Week in January and Valentine's Day weekend this month.
With more snow in the forecast, restaurant owners are hoping that customers choose to come out and support local businesses.
