BOONE COUNTY, Mo. --
A Kansas City woman was killed and a Prairie Village woman seriously injured after a crash just outside of Columbia Friday afternoon.
Anitia C. Pierden, 35, of Kansas City, was driving eastbound on I-70 when an oncoming vehicle crossed the median and hit her car head-on.
Pierden was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger, Elizabeth J. Hoots, 35, of Prairie Village, was taken to an area hospital in serious condition.
Two people in the other vehicle were also transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.
There's no word on what caused the vehicle to cross the median.
An investigation continues.
