KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Four Kansas towns that submitted proposals to house the U.S. Space Command headquarters are still in the running.
Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly said during a briefing on Monday that Kansas City, Wichita, Leavenworth and Derby made it to the second round of the selection process.
"Each of these communities is conveniently located in the national security crossroads, a region with unique national security assets and talents," Kelly said. "If chosen, each site would allow U.S. Space Command to leverage national security skills and infrastructure quickly."
Kelly cited the state's "talented workforce," existing military infrastructure, higher education institutions and public education system as reasons for the site to be in Kansas.
