KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City-area Price Chopper locations will collect donations for the family of a fallen West Peculiar firefighter, the company announced Tuesday.
Chuck McCormick died Sunday while battling a house fire on Deer Run Road in Peculiar.
Price Chopper said it would begin collecting donations for McCormick's family Tuesday afternoon, and will continue to do so through Tuesday, Jan. 14.
“We’re saddened to hear about the loss of Firefighter McCormick. Our local firefighters do so much to protect our communities,” Casie Broker, Price Chopper chief marketing officer, said Tuesday in a news release. “It’s our honor to collect donations to support the family following their loss.”
McCormick had been with the West Peculiar Fire Protection District for just three weeks before the deadly fire. He previously worked for the Cherokee County Fire Department in Canton, Georgia.
His Georgia colleagues set up a GoFundMe to raise money for McCormick's family as well.
Two investigations into the fire are underway. The first will determine what started the fire. The second will examine McCormick's cause of death.
