The first crews that arrived reported "heavy" fire from a 3-story apartment building with flames shooting through the roof of the structure.

Crews launched an offensive attack into the building, during which they found three victims and were able to bring them out safely.

Crews switched to fighting the fire defensively to help turn back fire conditions on the upper level of the building.

No injuries were reported during the course of the fire. Red Cross was ordered to help two adults and one child.

The Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department's Bomb and Arson unit is handling the investigation of the fire.
