Kansas City leaders approved a new hotel and a new method of paying for sidewalk improvements.

A new hotel is coming to downtown Kansas City. The Kansas City Council Thursday approved plans for a Hampton Inn at 16th and Main Street.

The new hotel is a $23 million project. It will be seven stories with just over 200 rooms.

The Hampton Inn will be directly in front of a KC Streetcar stop.

The city council also kept its promise to voters and took action to stop assessments to homeowners for sidewalk and curb repairs.

During campaigning council members promised voters if they approved the GO Bond then sidewalk assessments would end.

Any outstanding bills will not be collected, however homeowners who have paid for sidewalk repairs will not be reimbursed.
