KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City, Missouri, Public Library plans to take a “careful, first step” in reopening its doors on May 19.

The library system announced Wednesday that it plans to offer patrons the chance to “pop in” and “pick up” books that have been held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 19 at the Central Library as well as the Plaza, Lucile H. Bluford, Waldo and Trails West branches.

Other branches will participate in the new service starting the first week of June.

Library officials said they designed the service to be “contact free.”

Patrons are able to select the branch where they’d like to pick up items they’ve put on hold then will wait in their cars at the library while staff check out the materials.

Once the materials are ready for pick up, patrons will be allowed to enter the library to pick them up.

Additional information about the library’s reopening plan is available on the library’s website.
