KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man who died while experiencing homelessness in Kansas City, Missouri, was laid to rest on Saturday.

Scott “Sixx” Eicke, 41, was found Jan. 1 in the area of East 24th Street and Woodland Avenue.

His family invited 41 Action News to attend the funeral at Highland Missionary Baptist Church and shared how they hope to honor him, including working with local leaders to do more for those experiencing homelessness.

"If there's anything we can do... that's what he was all about his entire life,” Connie Eicke said.

Following Eicke’s death, and that of another man experiencing homelessness, Kansas City outreach groups have been vocal about the need for change and addressing the needs of this population in the city.

KCMO District 3 Councilman Brandon Ellington recently drafted a proposal that, if approved, would create shelters at parks or empty schools and motels to offer temporary housing for those experiencing homelessness.
