KANSAS CITY, Mo. — KC Water is asking customers to conserve water to help with ongoing flood-related treatment challenges with drawing from the Missouri River.

Communications and Outreach Manager Brooke Givens said reducing the amount of water lessens the impact on the treatment plant and helps KC Water better meet treatment needs.

KC Water issued a high turbidity alert late Friday, which remains in effect, but the utility insists the water is safe for drinking, cooking, and bathing except for those with a severely compromised immuner system.

There is no confirmed biologic or virus contamination in KC Water's supply being delivered to customers, but KCMO residents may continue to notice changes in the taste and color of their tap water.

KC Water will continue to conduct additional tests and monitor the treatment process, which delivers water to residential and business customers throughout the Kansas City area.
