KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Rainfall caused wastewater to overflow into local creeks Monday, according to KC Water.

The heavy rainfall overwhelmed the Buckeye Creek Pump Station on Northeast Birmingham Road and the Burlington Creek Pump Station on Northwest Green Hills Road.

Because the water became too much to pump, "highly diluted" wastewater spilled into Rock Creek and Walnut Creek, which both run into the Missouri River.

The pump stations are being monitored and the public is advised to stay out of the creeks near where the overflow is happening.
