KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Firefighters in Kansas City, Missouri, put out a fire early Friday morning at a storage facility on the east side of the city.

Battalion Chief Brian England said an aggressive approach helped save the building. Crews arrived at Warehouse1, 7800 East 12th St., at about 3 o'clock Friday morning.

England said the first firefighters on scene entered the storage facility and used water from their pumper truck to attack the flames. He said a rack of wood and pallets was on fire.

Crews kept the fire from spreading. England said flammable paints were on a rack about 20 feet away and the situation would have been a lot worse had those buckets of paint also caught fire.

No one was injured in the situation. England did not think any employees were at the facility when the fire started, but he said a member of the maintenance staff met firefighters there and was a big help.

An investigator from KCFD worked after all the firefighters left in an attempt to identify what sparked the fire.

One challenge England said his crews faced was the distance of this building from fire hydrants on the road. Crews had to use a lot of hose to reach the fire hydrant. Luckily, he said the first crew had water on board its truck and was able to spray the fire enough to contain it.

England did not think the fire damaged the building in any serious way.
