KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City, Missouri, fire department crews battled a fire at a vacant motel Saturday night.
A working fire call was initiated around 6:22 p.m. at 8228 Hickman Mills Drive.
Officials said the fire originated in the basement and extended to the attic. It took six handlines to extinguish the blaze,
One firefighter became disoriented and lost in the structure and called a mayday, according to officials, but was located without injury.
The fire is under control, but crews will be on scene until about 9 p.m.
One firefighter was transported to the hospital with chest pain.
