1 person killed in overnight house fire in Kansas City, Missouri

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City, Missouri, Fire Department is investigating the cause of a fire in the 1600 block of Elmwood.

Firefighters were called around 3:40 a.m. Tuesday to the two-story residence.

KCFD Battalion Chief Riley Nolan confirmed to KSHB 41 that firefighters found a victim dead in a second-floor bedroom.

Later, KCPD told KSHB 41 that the deceased victim is believed to have been a burglar who broke into the house and set the fire.

The American Red Cross was ordered to help three adults.

The investigation remains ongoing.
