KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker charged a 29-year-old KCK man in connection to Thursday's fatal shooting at 35th Street and Prospect Avenue.

Nerville Awuh has been charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of Pierre C. Hill-Williams.

He is being held on a $400,000 bond.

Police were called to a Conoco gas station near 35th Street and Prospect Avenue on a reported shooting Thursday where they discovered Hill-Williams dead at the scene.

Surveillance video showed Awuh and Hill-Williams have a short verbal exchange. Later, Awuh is seen raising an arm and shooting Hill-Williams in the back of the head. He then fled the scene in a vehicle he previously rented, according to court documents.

Police said Hill-Williams became the 97th homicide victim of the year.
