KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City, Kansas, police asked people to avoid the area where they were in a standoff with an armed male on Monday morning.
The standoff happened in the 4100 block of Parallel Parkway, which was closed between Interstate 635 and 43rd Street.
The incident started as a domestic disturbance around 1:30 a.m., according to police.
Police said the suspect fired a weapon inside the house during the disturbance, which traveled through the house and struck a neighborhing residence.
The suspect left before police arrived.
He returned around 5:30 a.m. and police showed back up.
The victim and an unknown number of children were able to leave the house, but the suspect remained inside.
The suspect eventually surrendered to police and was taken into custody. It is unknown if charges have been filed.
School buses heading to W.A. White Elementary School were rerouted around the area, but police said the school is not affected.
