KCP&L sending crews to help restore after hurricane Irma

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Approximately 50 KCP&L workers are headed to Florida to assist with restoration efforts after hurricane Irma.

The bulk of the group headed south about 7:00 Saturday morning and are prepared to stay and help for up to two weeks.

The crews have been assigned to assist Florida Power and Light, and will meet in Lake City, Florida where they will await their assignments once the hurricane has passed.

In addition to the 50 employees, KCP&L has already released 194 line contractors and 150 tree contractors, many of who had been assisting restoration efforts in the Houston area following Hurricane Harvey.

The KCP&L team consists of linemen and several support personnel, safety employees, managers, supervisors, materials representatives and mechanics.
