UPDATE, May 18 | The victim was identified as 46-year-old Howard E. West. It was determined that he was stabbed.

ORIGINAL STORY, May 16 | Kansas City, Missouri, police are investigating a suspicious death Saturday morning.

Police were called to Independence Avenue and Forest Avenue just after 7 a.m. on a medical call.

When they arrived, they found an unresponsive adult male on the ground. EMS personnel responded and declared him deceased.

The cause of death is unknown at this time, but police say the circumstances are definitely suspicious. KCPD confirmed Sunday that the death was being investigated as a homicide.

Detectives talked to several people who were in the area at the time, while crime scene investigators processed the scene for evidence.

Independence Avenue was closed in both directions during the investigation, but has since reopened.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Homicide Unit directly at 816-234-5043 or the Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers Tips Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
