KCPD investigating early morning homicide

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man was found dead Saturday morning in Kansas City, Missouri, from an apparent gunshot wound.

KCPD responded to a shooting call just before 5:30 a.m. in the 3900 block of Topping Avenue.

Police said a security patrol found an unresponsive man inside a vehicle in the parking lot of an apartment complex. When officers arrived, they found the man, who appeared to have been shot.

Medics responded and declared the victim dead at the scene. Crime scene investigators are processing the scene for evidence.

The man was later identified as 30-year-old Gregory Payton Jr. of Kansas City, Kansas.
