KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City police are investigating a Sunday morning homicide.
The shooting happened just before 7 a.m. on the 4100 block of Troost.
When officers arrived on scene, they were directed to the back of an apartment building where they located a male shooting victim in the parking lot.
Based on the initial investigation, police say the victim was shot during the course of a robbery.
Detectives are talking with people who were nearby at the time.
This is the 78th homicide of the year.
Jackson County Sheriff Darryl Forte tweeted Sunday that homicides in Kansas City have surpassed 100 a year almost every year since 1969.
