Man at center of KCPD standoff found dead inside home

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Police Department says a standoff in the area of 37th Street and Troost Avenue has ended.

Officers were called to the area around midnight by a woman who said a man was in her apartment and he was a wanted felon.

The woman got out safely, but an Operation 100 was called and police tried to negotiate with the man.

Around 2:30 a.m. a fire was reported in the apartment and firefighters were called to put it out.

Around 3:00 a.m. police and fire personnel entered the building and found the man dead. Police are investigating how the man died.

KCPD said officers were not involved in his death.
