KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Police in Kansas City said a man died after a semi truck hit him on Interstate 29 early Monday morning.
The crash shut down the southbound lanes of I-29 for more than two hours between NW 112th Street and Tiffany Springs Parkway.
Authorities have not released the names of those involved in the crash.
Police said the driver of the semi stopped after hitting the pedestrian and is cooperating with the investigation. According to police, the semi driver told investigators a man stepped out of a car stopped on the shoulder and into a lane of travel. The semi driver said he couldn't avoid the man.
The crash happened just before 2 a.m. and two lanes of traffic reopened at roughly 4:20 a.m.
Police believe the semi has a video recording system and are working to obtain a copy of the recording from Monday morning.
Investigators said the driver of the semi did not appear to be under the influence.
