KCPS preparing for Summerfest 2017

Nearly 6,000 people showed up to the inaugural event, and organizers are expecting even more people to show up to Summerfest this year.

Right now, Kansas City Public School leaders are planning the food, games and music for Summerfest 2017. Through partnerships and sponsorships, the district will hand out free backpacks, free uniforms, school supplies and more.

Garrett Webster with KCPS says there will also be opportunities for students to receive immunizations.

“It’s very important for the self-esteem of our principals and our scholars to come to school and feel like they have the equipment, whether that’s a nice, clean uniform," said Webster. "So, parents are going to have everything they need in order to feel great for the first day of school.”

KCPS will be holding enrollment fairs where parents and guardians can easily enroll their students in their KCPS neighborhood school. It is important that all students are enrolled by July 22 to guarantee bus transportation for the 2017 - 2018 academic year.

They’re asking families to attend one of the following enrollment fairs to learn more about their schools and transportation and for student immunizations:

• 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. July 17 at the Board of Education, 2901 Troost Ave. Kansas City, MO 64019
• 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. July 18 at the Board of Education, 2901 Troost Ave. Kansas City, MO 64019 
• 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. July 19 at Northeast Middle School, 4904 Independence Ave. Kansas City, MO 64124
• 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. July 20 at Northeast Middle School, 4904 Independence Ave. Kansas City, MO 64124
• 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. July 21 at African-Centered College Preparatory Academy Lower Campus, 6410 Swope Pkwy., Kansas City, MO 64132
• 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. July 22 at African-Centered College Preparatory Academy Lower Campus, 6410 Swope Pkwy., Kansas City, MO 64132
