KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 43-year-old Leavenworth woman was killed in a crash Tuesday afternoon in Olathe.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reports the wreck occurred shortly after 12:15 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 35 north of 167th Street.
The woman's Subaru Forester left the roadway, struck a tree and hit a concrete embankment. The vehicle then caught fire.
KHP said a pedestrian tried to save the woman from the burning Subaru. The pedestrian, a 33-year-old Leavenworth man, suffered minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
The southbound lanes of I-35 were closed for several hours at Lone Elm as crews worked the scene.
