FOUND: Missing man from Oregon with dementia located safe

UPDATE | Lawrence police said Ranney was found safe and unharmed in Mitchell County, Kansas.

PREVIOUS | Police in Lawrence are asking the public to help locate a missing elderly man.

John G. Ranney, 81, was last seen shortly after 11 a.m. leaving his residence in the 3900 block of Overland Drive.

Ranney is 5-feet-10 and 205 pounds with brown eyes, gray hair and trimmed gray beard. He wears glasses and was driving a white 1999 Ford Ranger truck with Kansas license plate 370 HBH.

The truck has a camouflage University of Kansas vanity plate affixed to the front bumper.

Ranney, who was recently diagnosed with dementia, lives in Salem, Oregon.

It’s unknown if he is attempting to return to Oregon, but Ranney’s truck was last seen driving west from Lawrence around 1:40 p.m. near West Sixth Street and George Williams Way.
