KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man who bit police officers has been sentenced to 19 months at the Department of Corrections.

Lajuan Lowery, 32, of Leavenworth, was sentenced Wednesday in Leavenworth County District Court. He was convicted in September of battering a law enforcement officer, interference with law enforcement and theft.

In April, Lowery was seen stealing from a convenience store. Officers in the area, according to Leavenworth County attorney Todd Thompson, and located a man – identified as Lowery – who matched Lowery’s description leaving the store.

When the officers tried stopping Lowery, he ran from them. The officers caught up to him and as they worked to detain Lowery, he resisted and bit an officer’s hand. He also grabbed the officer’s taser. Three officers were tased.
