KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Lee's Summit daycare suffered significant damage in an overnight fire Friday.

Fire crews were called to 905 S.E. Douglas just after midnight Friday on a fire alarm at the International Children's Academy.

Smoke was showing on arrival, and as firefighters entered the building, a fire in a void space between the building and roof was discovered.

Limited visibility, high heat, and the building size, construction type and location of the fire pushed crews out of the building because of a potential roof collapse.

Soon after fire crews exited the building, the fire burned through the roof.

Firefighters from outside were then able to get the fire out.

The building and contents suffered significant damage.

No injuries were reported, and the Missouri State Fire Marshal will work to determine the cause.
